Media

Media Studies at Dunraven focuses on giving students the skills, knowledge, confidence and enthusiasm in order to achieve highly in the subject, both inside and outside of the classroom. We want students to understand the impact that media products have on their lives. We want to encourage critical thinking and we want to encourage the use of media literacy in a student's communication. We also want to give all Dunraven media students the practical and technical skills useful for self expression and for use in the world of work.

KS3

  • Media analysis (of a printed advert and of a film trailer)

  • Critical thinking 

  • Creation of original products (Superhero film poster, Advert for a product, Audience profile video)

  • Year 7 cinema trip available for every student (no cost)

  • KS3 film club- Giving year 8 and 9 students the opportunity to engage in media production

KS4

  • Dulwich ‘BellHouse’ filming trip - Putting skills into a different context. 

  • PictureHouse cinema trip/workshop - Informing students of job roles in the creative media industry.

KS5

  • Critical thinking.

  • Using media terminology, key terms and language in communication.

  • Independent research and application to course learning aims.

  • Evaluating and challenging theoretical perspectives.

  • Critiquing and evaluating the way people, places and events are represented in media texts.

  • Knowledge of how the creative media industry works and how this affects media texts.

  • Knowledge of how audiences are targeted through media texts and that audiences receive and read media texts in a range of ways.

  • Planning a media production (people, resources, time).

  • Technical and practical media skills.

  • World Cinema club (Weds) - Giving all students a variety of cultural experiences through the medium of film

  • BFI lecture (newspapers). Enriching the students by allowing them to apply theory to a practical context, alongside other A level students. 

  • Sky ‘Creatives’ workshop. Informing students of the jobs available at sky (and the creative media industry in general).
