First published on Tuesday 13 February 2001:Schools get top reportsFebruary 13, 2001 17:08: Six Lambeth schools have received outstanding reports following inspections by Ofsted. The schools were all praised as being particularly successful in the reports by government inspectors published last week. They were also praised for performing well in national tests. Three of the credited schools are primary schools. They are: Clapham Manor Primary School, Corpus Christi Catholic Primary School in Brixton, and Reay Primary School in Stockwell. The nursery schools included were St Bedes Catholic Infant and Nursery School in Streatham and Triangle Nursery School on the William Bonney Estate in Clapham, while Dunraven School in Streatham was the only secondary school to receive such an accolade. The report was not the only piece of good news Dunraven received last week. The school was also chosen as the winner of the Evening Standard London School Award, which recognises excellence in the capitals schools, and acknowledges the schools achievements in challenging circumstances. Representatives from Dunraven are due to be presented with the award, and a cheque for £7,000 to be used on school projects, by Education Secretary David Blunkett at a special ceremony at the National Portrait Gallery at the beginning of March. Head teacher Richard Townsend said: It has been a team effort over a number of years that has strengthened the school, and everybody plays a role. It is a result of this very strong team approach that achieved the results in the national tests, with over 80 per cent of students reaching national expectations or better. Commenting on the Standard Award, Keith Hill MP said: The award is immensely well deserved and a great tribute to the excellent work of Mr Townsend and his staff over many years. I am enormously proud to be a patron of Dunraven, and I send my warmest congratulations to the whole school. Ty Goddard, councillor with executive responsibility for education, said: All the schools have worked extremely hard to create effective learning communities and fully deserve this recognition. They have shown schools in areas with high levels of deprivation can flourish.
